Leeds United are reportedly nearing completion of another summer transfer, with a deal that would facilitate yet another outgoing movement this month.
Daniel Farke’s side are apparently set to reach an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the acquisition of Michael Zetterer.
The 31-year-old would arrive as backup to James Trafford. His arrival would enable Lucas Perri to depart the Whites this summer, joining Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow as goalkeepers who have already left Leeds following last season’s conclusion.
Alex Cairns would remain the sole senior goalkeeper retained from the previous campaign should the former Brazil international complete his exit during this transfer window. Perri is expected to move to Torino on a season-long loan once the Whites secure another goalkeeper to fill his position.
The Athletic reports that Elland Road sources suggest there is confidence that Frankfurt, like Leeds, will need to bring in a new goalkeeper before authorising any sale. Zetterer only committed to a four-year contract twelve months ago, meaning three years still remain on that agreement.
The Munich-born stopper was nevertheless far from their preferred option throughout the entirety of the previous campaign. Zetterer began as their first-choice before losing his place to Kaua Santos in mid-September.
He had regained the role before late October, however. The German subsequently held down the starting position until the Bundesliga’s mid-season pause in late December.
His Brazilian colleague then took over between the posts at the start of 2026, though only a medial knee ligament problem brought his three-month run in the side to an end. Zetterer, though, kept him on the substitutes’ bench for the season’s closing fixtures.
Overall, the Leeds target featured 28 times across all competitions, recording seven shutouts and shipping 45 goals. Santos, by contrast, conceded 42 across 16 appearances, with just two clean sheets.
The latter notably started their most recent warm-up encounter against Brentford. The former Brazil under-20 international, however, shipped seven goals in west London as his replacement observed from the sidelines.
One piece of business Leeds have completed before the Premier League campaign commences is securing Brenden Aaronson on fresh terms. The United States international has committed to a three-year extension following a impressive pre-season showing.
Aaronson has found the net against Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, in addition to setting up Sean Longstaff for what proved to be the decisive goal in the latter friendly. The midfielder managed four goals and five assists in the top flight last season.
This fresh agreement represents a dramatic reversal for Aaronson. It arrives two years after he was subjected to jeering from Leeds supporters upon his return from a loan spell at Union Berlin.
