Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has indicated the club will not be hasty regarding Mykhailo Mudryk’s next move, as negotiations with Leeds United for the Ukrainian wide player continue.
The 23-year-old looks set to depart Stamford Bridge in an attempt to reignite his career, having spent more than a year and a half unable to feature in competitive action following anti-doping allegations that were dismissed during the close season. This clearance means he can now participate in official matches again.
Leeds are pursuing a loan arrangement for the Ukrainian international, with the club seeking additional firepower on the left flank. Although an initial approach was turned down, the Yorkshire outfit’s interest has not cooled.
Mudryk has been working out with a separate group at Cobham, forming part of a collection of players—including striker Liam Delap—who are poised to exit before next Thursday’s deadline.
When pressed on Mudryk’s situation during Saturday’s press conference, Alonso adopted a measured stance. He explained that time remains to evaluate options and that rushing decisions serves no purpose, with choices to be made when appropriate.
Daniel Farke has stressed the importance of strengthening the squad before the transfer window shuts, with the deadline now just eight days away.
Leeds are also targeting Eintracht Frankfurt custodian Michael Zetterer to serve as understudy to their current first-choice keeper. Additionally, the club requires a left-footed option at full-back.
Despite clearly identifying their requirements, Farke has avoided publicly detailing the specific characteristics he seeks in recruits. Addressing speculation about Mudryk on Saturday, Farke responded that he could not recall ever specifying particular profiles or opponents, adding that the club maintains openness to quality individuals. He expressed satisfaction with his current roster but emphasised efforts to bolster it until the window’s conclusion. Rather than discussing specific profiles publicly—concerned such discussion inflates valuations—the club conducts its business discreetly without naming targets or ideal characteristics.
