Leeds United are finally set to begin their Premier League season with an away trip to Nottingham Forest this Saturday. However, with the 2026/27 campaign imminent, efforts continue behind the scenes to bolster Daniel Farke’s squad during the last fortnight of the summer market.

The Whites concluded the previous campaign in 14th position and have aimed to improve by securing several first-team additions. While they have not been the most active club during this window, the £40million club record acquisition of James Trafford from Manchester City earlier this month represented a clear statement of ambition.

Farke has also brought in central defender Tarik Muharemovic for £34.1m and Harry Wilson on a free transfer after his exit from Fulham, with both anticipated to feature in the starting eleven immediately.

Regarding summer departures, seven confirmed exits also constitute a significant overhaul of the squad at Leeds. Additionally, four further transfers involving the club could be finalised in the coming days.

Nico Elvedi landed in the United Kingdom on Monday to finalise his impending switch to Elland Road in a reported £8.5m transaction. The seasoned Switzerland international, who participated in all of his nation’s matches as they progressed to the quarter-finals of this summer’s World Cup, is undertaking his medical examination after Borussia Monchengladbach sanctioned a deal valued at an initial £6.8m plus an additional £1.7m in potential add-ons for the central defender.

His signing clears the path for Sebastiaan Bornauw’s move to Hamburg in a reported initial loan arrangement with a purchase option. The Belgium international reportedly travelled to Germany on Sunday ahead of his own medical assessment.

Goalkeeper Lucas Perri is also on the brink of finalising his switch to Torino. The Brazilian will reportedly join the Italian side on loan with a modest fee and an option to purchase for approximately £12m. Consequently, Leeds may shift their focus to acquiring another reserve goalkeeper before the market closes, with only Alex Cairns remaining as cover for Trafford.

Another player potentially departing Elland Road is Joel Piroe. According to talkSPORT, West Ham United are considering a potential move for the striker, though Elland Road insiders have clarified that reports of discussions being at an advanced stage are not accurate at this moment.

Piroe featured for just 15 minutes across United’s final four pre-season matches. The player’s representative, Theo Roebbers, issued a communication to The Athletic on Saturday stating that should a departure solution not be reached this summer, Leeds would not need to contact him again.

Looking towards the closing days of the window next week, Leeds are anticipated to recruit a central midfielder and an attacking option to serve as understudy to Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Nelson Deossa and Yunus Musah represent two box-to-box players linked with a move to Elland Road, though neither deal currently stands at an advanced stage.

Regarding forwards, Leeds hold marginal interest in Eredivisie top scorer Ayase Ueda. However, Feyenoord’s £26m valuation for the Japanese international could present an issue.

Brazilian attacker Igor Paixao has also featured in Leeds’ scouting as they seek to add width to their attacking options, though discussions remain intricate. Rafael Leao has surfaced as a more speculative option, with the winger’s £46m price tag and wage expectations making any deal particularly difficult to execute, while the club would additionally prefer to recruit another full-back.

Official premium experiences at Elland Road are available now for the 26/27 Premier League season. Make it easier than ever to turn a regular fixture into something genuinely unforgettable.
